Patriotic Pretzels

Among my favorite things is chocolate covered (insert just about anything here). The salty and sweet combination in chocolate covered pretzels is just plain delicious. What could be better than stars and 'striped' dipped pretzels?! This is a fun, quick and easy project! AND you can customize it for any holiday or event. Different colors for birthday parties or baby showers!

Pretzels - regular or rods work well. We chose mini rods for both the cuteness factor and less guilt (but they're small!)
White Chocolate - milk or dark works just as well but white worked better with our red, white and blue theme
Sprinkles! - we found ours in the bulk section of Wegmans

1. Have all of your materials ready before you start - once the chocolate is melted you'll want to work quickly. Line a couple of sheet pans with parchment paper and spread out your sprinkles in a shallow dish. We set this up on our kitchen table like an assembly line. Trivet for the chocolate, sprinkles, sheet pans.
2. Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate - bring the water to a simmer being careful not to boil the water (you don't want to burn the chocolate). We temper our chocolate by melting about half the chocolate you're going to use then removing from heat and stirring in the remaining chocolate.
3. Place the melted chocolate on the trivet. I like to use a big spatula - scoop up a good amount of chocolate and then take your pretzel and roll it on your spatula. Unless I'm doing a very large amount of these I generally do not have enough chocolate to "dip" the whole pretzel in so this method makes it much easier.
4. Put the chocolate covered pretzel directly on your plate of sprinkles. Take a spoon and cover all of the chocolate areas.
5. Set on your sheet pan to harden. We generally put the pan in the fridge to cool faster.
6. Bon appétit! These also make great take-away treats for your 4th of July guests. We like to wrap them in parchment and tie with bakers twine.
